Medicine and Health Sciences Courses
Medicine and Health Sciences
Graduates of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Stellenbosch University are internationally renowned for their ethical and caring attitude, as well as the high quality of healthcare they deliver to their clients, patients and communities.
Students at the Tygerberg Campus, where the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences is situated, enjoy a comprehensive student-centred support system consisting of, among others, the First-year Academy, tutor and mentor support by senior students, and the ResEd (Residence Education) initiative. An experienced team of academics and support staff are involved in the academic progress of students with regards to their general well-being. In addition to expert tuition in well-equipped facilities, students obtain relevant practical experience as they work with patients and communities from an early stage in their studies.
The Faculty founded the first rural clinical school in South Africa. The Ukwanda Rural Clinical School, with its headquarters in Worcester and branches in Ceres, Robertson, Caledon, Hermanus and Swellendam, exposes students to first-hand experience in the health needs of rural communities.
Access to undergraduate programmes in medicine and health sciences depends on a structured selection process. Student numbers in health sciences programmes are limited by Health Professions Council regulations, the available infrastructure and budget of the health services and the University, and the high demands set by the programmes, which usually can only be completed successfully by those students who have performed at above-average levels at school.
See Application and selection for instructions on how to apply for admission. See the programmes below for their admission requirements.
Note on bringing your own computer to campus
First-year students should bring their own laptops or tablets with them to campus. At the beginning of the year you will use your device to register as a student and throughout the year to get access to class notes and to write tests and examinations. Read more about the specifications for laptops and tablets here.
